Landmark Nyaal Banyul development completed

21/06/2026

Events, conferences and economic activity are set to boom in Geelong following the completion of the $449 million Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre.

More than 80 events are already booked in at the new waterfront venue, bringing millions of dollars into the economy through delegate spending at hotels, restaurants, businesses and attractions.

This economic boost follows the regional benefit already provided during the construction phase of the project. More than 1,400 jobs were created during the build, while 250 apprentices gained invaluable on-the-job experience.

Completed on-time and on-budget, Nyaal Banyul is a stunning addition to Victoria’s second-largest city. The precinct features a 1,000-seat theatre, exhibition spaces, meeting rooms, conference facilities, flexible event spaces, food and beverage offerings, and a public plaza.

Designed and delivered in collaboration with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, the precinct features architecture, interiors, artworks, murals and landscaping that celebrate Wadawurrung Country and Culture.

It has also been built to be one of the most sustainable venues in the southern hemisphere, powered entirely by renewable energy.

Nyaal Banyul is the centrepiece project of a $676 million partnership between the Australian and Victorian governments and the City of Greater Geelong.

Now open, it will be managed by the Victorian Convention and Event Trust (VCET). In a further boost for the region, VCET is hiring more than 40 permanent and 200 casual staff ahead of the first event on 3 July.

The local community will also have an opportunity to explore Nyaal Banyul, with a dedicated Open Day on 11 July.
