Laying a foundation for art and wellbeing in Wonthaggi
19/08/2026We’ve helped deliver a health and wellbeing boost on the Bass Coast, through an upgrade to one of the area’s most unique community and art centres.
The State Coal Mine Rescue Station Arts Centre has installed new flooring thanks to support from our Living Local Regional Fund. This simple upgrade has breathed new life into the 98-year-old building that supports a wide range of creative and community programs.
Prior to the investment, the building floor was in a state of disrepair, with structural and drainage issues that interfered with community use of the space.
The new floating, flood-proof wooden floor is safe and accessible for people of all ages and abilities, helping secures the building’s future as a valued community asset.
Home to a gallery, art classes, music lessons, creative-based wellbeing projects and a ballet barre class, the arts centre plays an important role in keeping residents happy, healthy and fulfilled.
The ‘Ballet Barre for Seniors Program’ has been a particular success, supporting health, fitness and social connectivity for locals, while helping participants to remain mobile and independent.
Through investments like these we’re supporting happy, healthy and thriving regional communities.
It’s part of our ongoing work to make rural and regional Victoria even better places to live, work, stay and play.
