More accommodation, more workers for Wonthaggi

30/10/2026

Wonthaggi is ready for more healthcare workers and better community services, thanks to the completion of worker accommodation for Bayside Health.

Supported by our Regional Worker Accommodation Fund, the apartments at Wonthaggi Hospital offer 20 self-contained units to help Bayside Health attract and retain workers.

The units are now ready to house:

  • doctors
  • nurses
  • visiting specialists
  • allied health staff.

Shared indoor and outdoor spaces have been created as part of the project, to promote social connection and wellbeing.

Having more healthcare workers staying in Wonthaggi will support communities across the region to access the care they need without long-distance travel.

It also prepares Bass Coast’s largest town for future population growth, ensuring that local health services keep pace with an expanding community.

Completion of the project will increase rental availability across the town, as Bayside Health releases private accommodation previously held for its workforce.

Our Regional Worker Accommodation Fund has activated more than $300 million in private investment to build accommodation that supports communities, employers and thousands of workers.

The Bayside Health project is the latest worker accommodation to be delivered in Gippsland, with other sites now open in Newborough, Lindenow and Omeo, and more projects on the way across the region.

It’s part of our ongoing work to make rural and regional Victoria even better places to live, work, stay, experience, invest and study.
