New accommodation for regional healthcare
25/08/2026New accommodation is ready to welcome healthcare professionals to Kerang in a major boost for local hospital and healthcare services.
The 2 and 3-bedroom houses will help attract and retain doctors and clinical staff, which has been a recent challenge.
“We are better positioned to attract high-quality professionals, support their transition and integration into the community, and encourage them to build long-term careers with our organisation and the Loddon Mallee region,” said Kellie Byron-Gray, CEO of Kerang District Health.
This accommodation has been built through our Regional Worker Accommodation Fund, which helps key employers in regional locations to attract and retain key staff.
The fund is delivering almost 50 new and affordable accommodation projects that will support communities, key regional employers, industries and thousands of workers.
It has activated more than $300 million in private investment – investments that would not have occurred in these rural and regional locations without support from this program.
This includes a number of other regional healthcare providers, including at:
- Kyabram
- Omeo
- Robinvale
- Benalla
- Timboon
- Shepparton
- Bairnsdale
- Colac
These services are critical to the health, liveability and economic prosperity of regional communities.
In Kerang, the project also provided economic benefits to the area, with local company McKnight & Bray Building Design and more than 20 tradespeople and 10 businesses involved in the development.
