New homes taking shape for Bairnsdale health workers

Bairnsdale is one step closer to welcoming an influx of regional healthcare workers, thanks to new accommodation that’s nearing completion.

The housing– which is being funded through our Regional Worker Accommodation Fund – is designed to provide affordable lodging for:

doctors
nurses
allied health workers
specialists.

The 28 modern apartments will provide a significant boost to healthcare services in and around Bairnsdale, with more staff supporting shorter wait times and better local treatment options – while reducing pressure on the existing workforce.

The 24 studio apartments and four two-bedroom apartments have reached ‘lock-up’ stage – making them weatherproof and secure, with main structures, roofs, windows and doors in place.

On track for completion before the end of the year, they will provide short-term, medium-term and long-term stays for up to 32 health workers at any one time, providing the flexibility needed for a range of healthcare professionals.

Creating broader economic benefits for the region, the project’s building phase has created 30 local jobs and engaged local suppliers.

Interior works are progressing well and on schedule, with:

ground floor services and internal wall framing complete
first floor works underway
key building features such as balconies and external brickwork taking shape.
