No place like home: worker housing arrives in Omeo

We’re backing people in and around Omeo, ensuring the remote region can attract and retain the healthcare workers it needs – particularly doctors and nurses.

It’s thanks to the arrival of a new modular housing unit, supported by our Regional Worker Accommodation Fund, which is now undergoing connection to essential utilities and will soon be ready to welcome 5 workers and their families.

Once complete, it will be available for workers and their families to live in and begin work, with the aim of boosting services provided by Omeo District Health. This accommodation will help support better health and wellbeing outcomes for around 1,300 people who call the area home, as well as visitors to the area.

The modular building, which has so far been constructed off-site in Stratford by Anchor Homes, will also support 16 regional jobs throughout construction.

This project is one of several backed by the fund to successfully use modular building approaches to meet accommodation needs in small regional communities.

The Regional Worker Accommodation Fund is also supporting modular builds in Hopetoun, Wangaratta and other communities, utilising advanced manufacturing techniques and Victoria’s growing regional supply chain to find solutions to housing and accommodation challenges faced by regional communities.

Projects like these are about ensuring that regional communities have access to the jobs and skills they need to thrive along with the right services to keep people healthy, connected and supported.
