Paynesville’s Maritime Precinct sets sail

It’s clear skies for boating, tourism and economic growth in East Gippsland’s maritime industries, thanks to upgrades at Paynesville’s Slip Road Maritime Precinct.

The project was delivered over several years and guided by the Paynesville Maritime Precinct Masterplan.

Supported by $13 million from all levels of government, the development will unlock the potential of the area and further establish Paynesville as a key Victorian boating destination.

Stage 1 works created better road connections with the Paynesville CBD, a seawall to preserve the shoreline and protect the precinct, and a pedestrian boardwalk

There are also new access points to the precinct that are accessible and will make it more welcoming for people of all ages and abilities.

Building on this, Stage 2 has installed floating jetties and a boat ramp, making it easier to launch recreational and commercial boating activities – including marine tours and fishing expeditions.

These upgrades are expected to drive an increase in recreational boating and tourism spending in town, attract commercial boat-hire businesses, and support growth in what-is eastern Victoria’s largest maritime services industry.

The upgrades to the maritime precinct have been supported by more than $5 million from the Victorian Government, more than $7 million from East Gippsland Shire Council and $1 million from the Australian Government.

Investments like these are about supporting economic development and thriving communities across rural and regional Victoria.
