Portland keeps local freight rolling
19/08/2025Four upgraded freight roads are ready to roll in Glenelg Shire, supporting local jobs and the timber industry for years to come.
Each road will provide better access both in and out of local timber plantations.
The roads will benefit dozens of freight and forestry businesses along with thousands of timber workers.
Almost 100 jobs were supported during the construction of the roads which span Portland and nearby areas.
The upgrades include Heathfield Lindsay Road, Mumbannar-Wanwin Road, and Wilsons Road Mumbanner, and Fitzgerald Street, Portland.
Glenelg Shire is part of the Green Triangle, a major forestry region that covers south-west Victoria and south-east South Australia.
Timber from this region is in high demand around the world, and it plays an important role in helping the local economy grow.
The project is supported by a $4.8 million investment from the State Government’s Portland Economic Diversification Plan.
The plan is designed to back ongoing initiatives across Glenelg Shire to stimulate the economy through new jobs and investments that support more business activity.
