Quambatook Weir precinct to make a splash
08/08/2025Endless summer fun for Quambatook’s locals and visitors is on the way, with upgrades to the local weir pool underway to help draw visitors, improve local liveability and boost economic growth in the small Mallee town.
With our investment of more than $2 million, the new aquatic attraction on the Avoca River is expected to create 15 jobs during construction and help grow and diversify the town’s economy.
The upgraded weir pool will draw more people to the town and its local businesses, while enhancing Quambatook as a place to live and work.
New infrastructure will support more consistent water levels in the pool, protect local aquatic habitats and provide more opportunities for water-based recreation.
Works will also build launching areas for boats, kayaks and canoes, and install fishing jetties and platforms for keen anglers.
The fun won’t be limited to the water, with shoreline construction set to create a sandy beach for play and relaxation and picnic facilities. The planting of trees will also beautify the area and provide shade during the hotter months.
New tracks and trails will link the weir to the heart of Quambatook’s town centre, providing easy access between the aquatic precinct, businesses, and the local caravan parks and sports precinct. People will also have access to the western banks of the river thanks to a new bridge being built near River Street.
Once complete, the improved weir pool will transform Quambatook into a tourism hotspot - revitalising the Mallee town with a regionally significant, nature based aquatic destination.
Our support for the project forms part of a record $47 billion investment in just over a decade towards projects that are making regional cities and towns even better places to live, work, stay, experience, invest and study.
