River upgrades boost community at Quamby
18/06/2026Aquatic habitats, community recreation and jobs are the winners at Quambatook in north-west Victoria, with new visitor facilities and water infrastructure installed along the Avoca River.
Fifteen jobs were created through the Sustainable Recreational Water for Quambatook project which was delivered with $2 million of support from the Victorian Government.
The Avoca River is an important feature of the small town and this investment both nurtures the waterway and provides more opportunities for it to be enjoyed.
The health of the river’s aquatic life and habitats are set to benefit following installation of weir infrastructure that will support more consistent water levels.
This means, there will be more opportunities for on-water activities. Launching spots have been created for kayaking and boating, and new fishing jetties and platforms for anglers.
Along the riverbank, picnic facilities have been installed so visitors and the community can gather near the water’s edge, beneath newly planted trees.
Importantly, access to the river has also been improved with a new pedestrian bridge and paths into town.
