Support for health workers in Shepparton

The Victorian Government is supporting more frontline health workers to live and work in Shepparton, with 33 new apartments helping build the local workforce and strengthen community care.

Located next to Goulburn Valley (GV) Health, 18 self-contained apartments have been supported through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund and 15 by the Regional Worker Accommodation Fund.

The new GV Health worker accommodation, which is a multi-storey, concrete building with self-contained units, each featuring a balcony with green fencing that overlook the shared-use barbecue and lawn area.

The much-needed worker housing will help address local gaps in suitable accommodation for frontline healthcare workers. It will bring more services to the city and surrounds, while also easing pressures on the local housing market.

Located adjacent to the Shepparton Hospital and set within a welcoming and safe site, the modern, 3-storey accommodation will house up to 39 workers at a time, including doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and other staff.

This proximity to their worksite and local public transport connections will ensure staff can maintain their work-life balance, while having direct and safe access to the hospital at all hours.

With Shepparton continuing to develop as one of the region’s main economic and population hubs, projects like these are supporting healthy and thriving communities, and helping remove barriers to growth.

Inside one of the GV Health units, which contain a kitchenette with a hardwood floor, and carpeted living and bedroom spaces that look out into a fenced balcony or courtyard.

Local builder Hansen Yuncken delivered the accommodation using recycled glass and sustainably sourced timber materials. Dozens of jobs were created throughout construction – directly benefiting local workers and the regional supply chain.

Established in 2016, the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund is the largest grant program of its kind in Victorian history.

Valued at $865 million overall, it provides vital government funding to rural and regional health services and agencies across Victoria. This ensures these services can continue to provide safe and efficient care to local communities.
