Tourism investments get going on Great Ocean Road
11/08/2026The latest community-boosting tourism investment along the Great Ocean Road is underway, with works starting on upgrades at Kennett River.
The upgrades are part of a broader $676 million investment by the Australian and Victorian governments, and local delivery partners, to unlock the economic potential of the region.
At Kennett River, the upgrades include improved:
- public spaces
- carparking
- landscaping
- paths
- toilets.
Importantly, there will be changes to the road design to improve traffic flow and safety in the small township and its local streets.
These upgrades will support sustainable tourism and local economic activity that is appropriate to Kennett River’s size and unique character.
Experienced builder Fulton Hogan has been appointed to deliver the $3.8 million project, which was shaped by extensive community engagement.
The start of works at Kennett River comes as two other nearby redevelopments are underway at Point Grey in Lorne and at the historic Apollo Bay Harbour.
Collectively, it’s a major investment in this stretch of the Great Ocean Road, which welcomes millions of people each year.
Further along the famous road, a major redevelopment of the Twelve Apostles Visitor Precinct is progressing at-pace and set to be completed later this year.
Delivery of infrastructure like this will support the tourism that drives business activity in the area while supporting the communities that call this special part of Victoria home.
