Wonthaggi streets ahead with new upgrades
10/12/2025We’ve helped to make Wonthaggi’s town centre a safer and more accessible space for visitors, locals and businesses.
Upgrades to the town's streetscapes and main activity centre have strengthened Wonthaggi’s place as the vibrant centre of the Bass Coast.

The upgrades were supported by a $2 million investment from the Victorian Government via RDV. The project supported 7 local jobs during construction and is expected to sustain 5 ongoing maintenance roles – while boosting Wonthaggi’s appeal as a place to invest and do business.
Works have delivered improvements to the Biggs Drive and Murray Street intersection, making it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to safely cross the road.
Nearby, a redevelopment of Apex Park includes a new playground and accessible public toilets to help people of all abilities extend their visit, providing a boost for local traders.
Other enhancements include new street furniture, colourful modular planter boxes along McBride Avenue, artworks, and pedestrian crossings throughout the main activity area.
It all means that locals and visitors can easily access the best that businesses have to offer while connecting with friends and family.
Funding has also supported the planting of 13 Crepe Myrtle trees along Graham Street as part of Bass Coast Shire Council's Alternative Freight Route Strategy. This strategy aims to re-direct freight traffic and heavy vehicles away from the town centre and establish alternative routes to the Bass Highway.
Our support for Wonthaggi’s streetscapes upgrades and town centre forms part of our ongoing investment in rural and regional Victoria.
This funding is helping to make regional cities and towns even better places to live, work, study, experience, and invest.
