A new way to get Bendigo moving

04/09/2025

It’s great news for people seeking a new way to visit some of Bendigo’s best spots.

A project has now started on an extensive pathway that will open-up more active travel and tourist experiences in the regional city.

Thanks to a $5 million investment by Regional Development Victoria, and more than $2 million from the City of Greater Bendigo, the pathway project will complete a missing link in the Bendigo City Trail.

Called the ‘Bendigo Low Line’, the pathway will use 4.4 kilometres of the Bendigo Creek channel and run from Lake Weeroona to Golden Square. Once completed, it will link many of Bendigo’s major attractions like Rosalind Park, the Golden Dragon Museum and Central Deborah Gold Mine.

The pathway will divert cyclists from busy roads and connect seamlessly with Bendigo’s existing network of walking and cycling paths. It will support residents and visitors to access workplaces, schools, shops, parks and other public spaces in a healthier and more sustainable way.

There will be 14 entry and exit points to cater for Bendigo residents – 95,000 of whom live within 5kms of the Bendigo Creek channel.

Lighting, signage, seating and landscaping will complement the pathway, while retaining walls and drainage will also be completed.

Being delivered by the City of Greater Bendigo, the project will help create a more connected, inclusive and vibrant city. Sections of the pathway will be opened to the public as they are completed, with the full project expected to be finished in late 2026.

The name ‘Bendigo Low Line’ reflects the channel section of the Bendigo Creek and takes inspiration from the creative and cultural success of New York’s High Line that was created on a disused, elevated railway structure.

Investment from Regional Development Victoria is part of the Council Support Package, a fund to support local councils to invest in projects that create long-lasting value for their communities.

With more than $47 billion delivered in rural and regional investment in just over a decade, the Victorian Government continues to drive regional economic growth.
