Building accommodation for regional healthcare workers

14/08/2025

We’re supporting the essential work of Kerang District Health with the construction of three new units for staff.

Work has now started on the two and three-bedroom units, which will help attract and retain healthcare workers in this growing, agriculture-rich part of the Mallee.

Established in 1952, Kerang District Health delivers a range of essential hospital and healthcare services for the community.

The accommodation project is being supported through the Regional Worker Accommodation Fund, part of our $47 billion of regional investments in just over a decade.

It’s essential support for the places that account for approximately one-quarter of the state’s economic output, population, small businesses, and employment.

As well as helping to fill a gap in accommodation, this project is supporting local jobs and businesses.

The units were designed by Kerang-based McKnight & Bray Building Design. They are being built using 100% local trades and suppliers.

This project commences as works are being completed on additional worker accommodation in the Mallee. Two units have been completed Irymple, with a further 8 on the way to support healthcare, education and law enforcement professionals.

Two hours north of Kerang, another 10 units will also be built at Robinvale, while to the west, 7 units are planned for locations across the Buloke Shire.

Across the state, even more worker accommodation is being built to help regional communities attract the key workers they need to thrive.
