Safe and sustainable tourism for Kennett River
12/10/2026There’s now improved traffic flow, parking and visitor facilities at Kennett River after the completion of a $3.8 million tourism upgrades project.
Ready for the summer season, the project will help manage traffic and tourism in this small town while providing a better experience for visitors and the community.
The road design and main precinct have been reshaped for safer movement of motorists and pedestrians. It’s a change that was driven by the community’s feedback.
There are also:
- upgraded public spaces
- landscaping
- improved pathways
- a modern public toilet facility
- wastewater treatment plant
- additional parking.

Delivery of this project is another win for the Great Ocean Road region, which receives around 7 million visits every year.
Many of those people will also visit the Twelve Apostles – where there’s been a major redevelopment of the visitor precinct. Here, the new Keerray Woorroong Visitor Centre has just been built and is now ready to provide a world-class experience at Victoria’s most famous natural destination.
Closer to Kennett River, two other investments are underway to help unlock the region’s economic potential.
In Lorne, it’s the Point Grey Redevelopment. This project is delivering a new Angling and Aquatic Club facility, a redeveloped Co-Op building with café, and upgraded visitor amenities.
And at Apollo Bay Harbour there’ll be a new hospitality venue, outdoor terrace and viewing deck, improved parking and connections, and the return of a wet-fish market.
All of these projects are part of a $676 million partnership between the Australian and Victorian Governments to deliver key infrastructure for communities and business along the Great Ocean Road.
