$5 million in Grants a Boost for Hume Region

RDA Hume has congratulated local organisations and councils who will share in $5 million of grant funding thanks to the latest round of the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund.

Chair Susan Benedyka said the Building Better Regions Fund grants would go towards 19 infrastructure and community projects totalling over $10 million.

“This funding is a major boost for the Hume region and has given 19 projects the green light to begin across Beechworth, Wangaratta, Shepparton, Seymour, Myrtleford, Broadford, Harrietville, Cobram, Bullioh, Kinglake, Bright, Colac and Yackandandah.”

“The RDA Hume committee was pleased to provide a letter of support to help strengthen many of the applications that were submitted and has worked closely with the project proponents in the development of these applications,” Ms Benedyka said.

“Those who have received funding have demonstrated that these projects have positive social and economic benefits for Hume and strong alignment with the Hume Strategy for Sustainable Communities which was developed to inform decision-making and investment across the region.”

Ms Benedyka said that while tourism, including bike trails, food, festivals and significant events, were big winners from the latest funding round, it was great to see many grassroots organisations benefit also.

“I am thrilled that there are many community groups who have successfully applied for these grants and they must be very happy with the outcomes, particularly those initiatives which will bring benefits to our region’s young people,” Ms Benedyka said.

“We recognise that community strengthening is at the very core of what we do best, and we are pleased to see that right across the catchment, there have been grass roots community organisations, who as a result of this funding, will now be able to bring projects and ideas to fruition.

“It is also good for a region so rich in tourism that this round of funding has supported this important industry, as well as help provide amenities which improve the lives of people who live here.”
