RDA Hume welcomes more Commonwealth investment in regions

The Regional Development Australia (RDA) Loddon Mallee committee welcomes the Commonwealth Government’s renewed commitment to the RDA Network and regional economic recovery.

The Australian Government has announced a new 4.5 year funding agreement for the RDA Network, including RDA Hume, and a refreshed Charter (PDF 33 kB) that will emphasise greater alignment across all levels of government, supporting regional planning that identifies and advocates for strategic long-term investment priorities.

The announcement follows the 2020-21 Commonwealth Budget, which heavily invests in regional communities.

Communities across the Hume region will benefit from a $320 million investment to fund stage three of the Shepparton Rail Line upgrade and a $104 million infrastructure investment for the McKoy Street Hume Freeway Intersection Upgrade on the outskirts of Wodonga.

The Budget includes $200 million for Round Five of the Building Better Regions Fund. With a total investment of $1 billion from 2017-8 to 2023-24, the fund supports the Australian Government's commitment to create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities into the future.

RDA Hume Chair Amanda McClaren encouraged businesses and community organisations to review opportunities arising from the boost to Commonwealth funding programs, infrastructure, new job creation and industry support initiatives.

RDA Committees play an important role in delivering sustainable infrastructure and services to their region, including through consulting with communities, promoting and participating in regional initiatives, and providing information and advice to all levels of government.
