Ballarat Station precinct redevelopment second stage commences23/03/2016
The Victorian Government’s $25 million investment to revive the Ballarat Station Precinct into a vibrant, connected community hub has taken a major step forward today, with the commencement of the second stage of the commercial procurement process.
Four consortiums have been short-listed and invited to take part in the Request for Proposal (RFP) phase, which will run for 12 weeks before closing on 17 June 2016.
The Government received significant interest from the private sector during the Expressions of Interest (EOI) phase, which closed on 17 December 2015.
The economy boosting project will deliver a four star rated hotel and convention centre with supporting transport infrastructure, while creating new public open spaces.
The proposed hotel and convention centre will include more than 100 hotel rooms, large flexible spaces for conferences and functions and a range of quality retail and dining options.
It’s estimated the project will cost more than $50 million and attract significant private sector investment to the precinct, creating jobs and boosting tourism to the Ballarat region.
The project will also improve amenity and cultural vibrancy for all users of the precinct, including commuters, pedestrians, visitors and the community.
As the project progresses the Government will continue to engage with the community and ensure that people have their say on the final design of the Precinct.
