Builder secured for Barwon Heads arts and community hub
Geelong-based company Plan Group has been awarded the contract to build the much-anticipated Barwon Heads Arts and Community Hub funded by the Victorian Government.
Works will begin later this month on the project that has been supported by a $1 million grant from the Victorian Government.
The hub will see the transformation of the former kindergarten site on Clifford Parade into a communal space for artists and community members, supporting creative talent and strengthening the local arts industry.
Plan Group has extensive experience in a range of large construction projects including the recently completed West Oval Redevelopment contracted by the City of Greater Geelong.
Another Geelong-based company Four18 Architects designed the plans for the new building which has been widely supported by the local community and City of Greater Geelong.
The hub’s refurbishment will include an update of the existing building, development of an outdoor space and upgrades to parking facilities.
The works will provide the space to support all local artists from the visual arts, to music, drama, theatre, dance, poetry and literature.
The project will support the Government’s commitment to make the Bellarine Peninsula an even better place to live, work, visit and invest.
This project was a key election commitment in 2018 and is part of the Victorian Government’s almost $30 billion investment across regional and rural Victoria since 2015.
