Business expansion in Bairnsdale a win for local jobs

06/12/2022

The Victorian Government is supporting the expansion of a window manufacturing business in East Gippsland to create new jobs and assist people to rebuild their homes lost in the 2019-20 bushfires.

Wood Street Windows in Bairnsdale is being supported through the Regional Jobs Fund to expand its manufacturing facility – creating 10 new jobs and supporting bushfire recovery efforts in the region.

The family owned and operated business was established in 1990 and fabricates high quality and durable aluminum windows and doors.

Its $700,000 expansion will achieve a 30 per cent increase in manufacturing capability, supporting the company to increase its residential and commercial window offerings in the Victorian and New South Wales markets.

The project will include the construction of a new storage facility and the purchase, installation and fit out of new equipment. A new inbound delivery area will improve logistics and productivity by supporting the prefabrication and storage of timber reveals prior to assembly.

Storage upgrades will also allow the business to increase the number of products transported to clients and grow the storage capacity on site to cater to customers facing building delays.

The East Gippsland region was severely impacted by the 2019-2020 bushfires, with 1.1 million hectares burnt in the local area.

The expansion and upgrade to Wood Street Windows will allow it to increase production to support rebuilding and recovery efforts in East Gippsland.

This builds on several economic stimulus and resilience projects funded by the Victorian Government to support fire-affected areas across the state in response to the impact of the 2019-20 bushfires.

The Regional Jobs Fund is part of the Victorian Government’s flagship Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund. The Fund is central to the Government’s record investment of more than $36 billion across regional and rural Victoria since 2015.
