Foster CBD improvements to benefit local traders

Foster’s main shopping strip is now a more attractive place to stop, shop and socialise with the completion of the $1.67 million upgrade to Main Street officially celebrated today.

The project has been completed with a $500,000 grant from the Government’s Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund.

The streetscape has been upgraded with new footpaths, landscaping, street furniture including seats and benches as well as improved parking and underground drainage.

Road treatments have been installed to slow down traffic and a new pedestrian crossing has been built, making the shopping strip safer and more inviting for people on foot.

The design was developed in consultation with the Foster Community Association and Foster Chamber of Commerce, with input on landscaping and street furniture from the broader community.

The increased street appeal will assist business growth, improve the visitor experience, and stimulate economic activity. Through increased retail and market value, the project is expected to create 40 jobs over the next 20 years.

Foster is also a gateway town that services activity within the Wilsons Promontory region and the improved main street will encourage tourists to stop and shop in town.
