Construction starts at Bendigo GovHub19/08/2021
Construction is now underway on Bendigo’s landmark GovHub – a major regional project expected to forecast $130 million into the local economy and generate more than 200 new local jobs during construction.
The joint venture between Bendigo-based builder Fairbrother and one of Australia and New Zealand’s largest construction providers Icon – known as Icon Fairbrother – is working closely with Lyons Architects and Arup Engineering for the design and build of the innovative multi-use building in the heart of Bendigo.
The local Bendigo construction industry will be engaged throughout the project in line with the Victorian Government’s Local Jobs First policy.
Local businesses contracted to date include Eascom, DPK Mechanical, Big Hill Cranes, Online Laser, Dorian, SignMob and Allied Consultants.
The Bendigo GovHub will be at least a five-star green energy rated building and feature solar panels, water and energy monitoring systems, a rainwater tank and efficient indoor air quality systems.
The Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation has also been an important project partner instrumental in ensuring the inclusion of Indigenous design elements and language throughout the architecture, landscaping, and spaces.
On track for completion in late 2022, the 20,000-square metre building will enable the delivery of a range of services for the community and accommodate up to 1,000 Victorian Government and City of Greater Bendigo workers.
