Edencraft on the crest of a wave with new machining centre

01/12/2023

Geelong boat builder Edencraft International is about to see production and jobs soar.

The company has commissioned a high-tech robotic manufacturing machining centre that will help treble manufacturing capacity.

It’s part of a $1.8 million factory expansion project supported by a grant from the Victorian Government.

Established in 2016, Edencraft International is a family-owned regional business located in Moolap specialising in the manufacture of offshore motorboats.

The design strength and high quality of its vessels have proven extremely popular- so much so there was a 12-month waiting list, with production previously limited to around 28 boats a year.

The expansion project will help reduce that wait time by significantly streamlining operations, and when complete will more than double the company’s workforce, creating 31 new jobs including 18 apprentices.

The 5-axis automated machining centre will enable Edencraft to carve a foam “plug”(boat mould) to an accuracy of one hundredth of a millimetre.

Other components of the project include a new glass cutting machine, construction of a spray booth, upgrades and modifications to the existing factory structure, and new plant and equipment.

Edencraft General Manager Josie Eastman said, “we’re very proud of our business, and our workers and family of boat owners who have made it possible.”

“We’re excited about the next stage in our growth, and I’d like to thank the government for its support.”
