Indigenous War Memorial appoints artist

Adante Silo Art

Internationally acclaimed street artist Adnate has been commissioned as the lead artist to create a large-scale Indigenous war memorial on the water tower in Heywood. A local Indigenous artist will work alongside and be mentored by Adnate.

Street artist, Adante

Adnate is a Melbourne-based artist who paints large scale murals around Australia and the world, creating a statement of reclaiming the land that was always theirs. He endeavours to capture the stories and emotions of each subject he paints, encouraging the audience to feel through their own experience.

Local Indigenous artist Levi Geebung will work alongside and be mentored by Adnate to create the Memorial incorporating their styles to tell the story of our Indigenous service men and women.

The Victorian Government is supporting the project with $49,500 from the Stronger Regional Communities Program. This project has been initiated by Leadership Great South Coast 2020 Participants and is also supported by Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owners Corporation, Wannon Water, and the Glenelg Shire.
