New meeting hall in Garvoc gets green light24/03/2020
Garvoc locals are in celebration mode. And for good reason.
A $400,000 grant from the state government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund has been approved to erect a modern hall in the small Western District town, replacing the current 160-year-old hall that has seen better days.
The new venue means a lot to the 280 or so locals as it will be the focus for multiple gatherings that help bring the community together.
Indeed, the new build – to include a commercial kitchen, an office, toilets and showers and to be positioned on the Princes Highway next to the Garvoc tennis courts and CFA shed – will not only stage community events but also host the Garvoc Country Fire Unit and the Garvoc Residents Group.
Added to that, it will be the setting for a Moyne Shire Council-managed Family Day Care, a major convenience for those who must currently drive to Terang or Warrnambool to access such services.
