The Victorian Government is backing the High Country Comeback farmer’s market at Port Melbourne this weekend, led by a team of local businesses embarking on the road to recovery after this summer’s bushfires.

winemakers The High Country Comeback event will see up to 100 businesses from Victoria’s High Country region showcase gourmet produce, tourism and entertainment provided by Victoria’s High Country businesses.

With the tagline “We’re coming to you, so you come back to us”, the free event aims to drive tourism to the Victorian High Country by showing guests everything the region has to offer.

Local Victorian High Country organisers are encouraging Victorians to attend the event with empty eskies and fill them with produce samples, while listening to local musicians and consider booking a trip to the region.

While entry is free, donations will be accepted at the door with proceeds going to the state’s north east Country Fire Authority and local wildlife groups, while purchases will inject vital immediate income into businesses affected by the recent bushfire and encourage visitors to come and see the region’s many offerings.

Victorian Government support for the event follows the Victorian Bushfire Appeal which has raised over $24 million for the affected communities in the state’s north east and in Gippsland, which will be injected back into the regions through a variety of sectors.

winemakers The Government has also provided grants for Tourism North East and Destination Gippsland to support local tourism operators coordinate tourism campaigns and has launched the Business & Sport for Bushfire Recovery program to invite over 150 organisations to hold conferences and events in regional Victoria.

Tourism employs 24 per cent of Victoria’s High Country workforce and in the year ending September 2019 injected over $1 billion into the region’s economy through domestic visitors.

High Country Comeback will take place from 11am to 2pm this Sunday, 2 February, at The Timber Yard, 351 Plummer Street Port Melbourne. To register, please visit eventbrite.com.au/e/high-country-comeback-tickets-91107518039.
