Active Living Census to provide insight into Loddon Campaspe health habits10/03/2020
The Loddon Campaspe Regional Partnership today launched the findings of its Active Living Census as part of its ongoing Healthy Heart of Victoria project.
Funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, the census provides important information about the activity levels of residents across the region and valuable insights on what would help community members meet national guidelines for healthy eating and active living.
This information will assist community groups, sporting clubs, health agencies and local councils to improve and develop local programs and facilities designed to get people more active.
Past Active Living Census results has seen the region rate low on a range of health behaviour indicators including rates of obesity and fruit/vegetables consumed daily compared to other regions across the state.
Chair of the Loddon Campaspe Regional Partnership, Dave Richardson, said the data made available by the census is unique to the region.
“No other region has gone into this amount of detail with a health and wellbeing study before. It was completed by just under 10% of Loddon Campaspe residents, making for a high-quality data set”, Mr. Richardson said.
“The findings from the study will help us to improve our understanding of people’s wellbeing, activity levels and preferences, and increase the effectiveness of investment in infrastructure and programs.”
The findings provide evidence at a local level not previously available across the region and enable reliable comparisons between other data sets, including between townships and demographic groups.
The Healthy Heart of Victoria initiative works to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for community members in the Loddon Campaspe region – the ‘heart’ of Victoria. It links the census data with funded key positions in local government and funding grants for improved infrastructure. The initiative aims to improve health and wellbeing by making Loddon Campaspe a more safe, inclusive, accessible and active region to live.
