Fast-tracking jobs to Ballarat GovHub27/08/2019
The Victorian Government’s Ballarat GovHub is delivering local jobs ahead of schedule, with the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) moving into town while construction continues on the new site.
Minister for Regional Development Jaclyn Symes and Minister for Consumer Affairs Marlene Kairouz today announced that over 30 workers from the DJCS Consumer Affairs contact centre will begin working from a staging office in Ballarat this month, to prepare for their long-term presence at the GovHub.
Consumer Affairs Victoria has recruited 31 staff from the Ballarat market to work at the staging office – which will operate until staff move to the Ballarat GovHub, which is scheduled for completion in late 2020.
DJCS will continue its recruitment drive for additional positions that will be stationed at GovHub – providing fast-tracked opportunities in coming months for professionals living in the region to work closer to home.
Ballarat GovHub will be home to up to 1000 workers from government agencies including Regional Development Victoria, Department of Education and Training, Department of Justice and Community Safety, State Revenue Office, VicRoads and Service Victoria.
Construction at the GovHub is progressing, with extensive demolition and excavation works now complete.
About 70,000 tonnes of soil and rock has been removed – with 10,000 tonnes kept onsite to form a ramp to help trucks access the basement level.
Over the coming month, piling work will continue to prepare for the concrete pour of the basement slab.
