New Bendigo Planetarium to Take Visitors to Outer Space and Beyond

12/08/2022

A new cultural attraction is coming to Bendigo, with a state-of-the-art planetarium opening in 2023.

The new Bendigo Planetarium will use a cutting-edge sound and laser projection system. It will be twice its current seating capacity and run a diverse programme to inspire the next generation of scientists, innovators and even astronauts.

The upgraded planetarium at the Bendigo Discovery Science and Technology Centre is also set to create new jobs and draw visitors to the region, thanks to a $250,000 investment from the Victorian Government’s Regional Tourism Investment Fund.

The investment will foster STEM learning opportunities for children, linking to the Victorian school curriculum. It will also create a new space to host art and cultural events.

Established in 1995 as Australia’s first science and technology centre outside of a major metropolitan area, the Bendigo Discovery Centre welcomed more than 30,000 visitors to the region in 2019.

The new planetarium is expected to attract more than 14,000 new visitors to the region. It will also add a permanent addition to Bendigo’s strong cultural events offering.
