Local Community Initiatives

Part of the Putting Locals First Program, Local Community Initiatives projects support local community driven initiatives that assist community skill development and/or better connect people to resources, services and each other.

Activities that could be supported include:

  • supporting local community leadership development
  • innovative community garden or similar projects where these improve skills, use volunteers and better connect people
  • activities to improve coordination of existing services, such as service mapping, improved interagency referral capacity and sharing of ‘back of house’ functions
  • initiatives to attract and retain skilled professionals
  • supporting the development of innovative engagement techniques for hard to reach groups such as using social media to engage young people in decision making
  • mentoring projects such as connecting newly arrived migrants with local opportunities to improve employment opportunities and build cross-cultural understanding and
  • assisting communities in sharing and learning from successful approaches via information and communication technology.

Eligibility

The following organisations in Victoria can apply for funding:

  • private sector businesses and agencies
  • local government authorities
  • not for profit organisations that:
    • are an incorporated body, cooperative or association (including business associations) and
    • have an Australian Business Number (ABN) or can provide written advice from the Australian Tax Office that no withholding tax is required from the grant payment.
