Improved Local Infrastructure
Part of the Putting Locals First Program, Improved Local Infrastructure projects support investment in priority infrastructure that meets local needs. Quality local facilities are important in providing services, encouraging tourism and private investment, improving quality of life and the sustainability of many towns. Communities need a range of well located, designed and operated facilities if they are to be socially inclusive, active and liveable.
Community facilities accommodate and promote many opportunities for participation, contribute to a range of health, learning and community safety benefits, cultivate a sense of belonging and respect for diversity, and increase the success of reaching out to isolated groups.
Activities that could be supported include:
- civic revitalisation initiatives including beautifying town centres, improving town entrance points, street scaping, village greens and upgrading open space areas
- building or upgrading shared community facilities such as meeting places, public halls and facilities supporting integration of organisations delivering services
- heritage projects of local significance including renewal of historic buildings
- pathway projects connecting communities and attracting visitors, such as rail trails and walking tracks
- tourism infrastructure including visitor information centre upgrades, interpretive signage and facilities (Strategic tourism and cultural assets funded separately under RGF)
- bringing state of the art technology and internet access to public libraries and other shared community facilities
- innovative water projects that improve the use of recycled water at community facilities.
