Ballarat West Employment Zone

Two signs at the edge of the Ballarat West Employment Precinct, with a truck driving past on the adjacent road.

We’re supporting the creation of new trunk infrastructure across the regions – drawing on our expertise gained through delivering previous and ongoing projects to ensure the best outcomes.

In Ballarat, we’re creating a central hub for job creation and business growth at the Ballarat West Employment Zone (BWEZ) – a 438-hectare site of Crown surplus land.

We’re working with partners to develop the land in stages, creating 2 business precincts so far, with more to come.

The creation of enabling infrastructure – including water, power, sewerage and road works – continues to establish land lots for businesses to purchase.

This work has already attracted companies including CHS Broadbent, Kane Transport, Luv-A-Duck, Westlab and Athlegen to set up at BWEZ. George Weston Foods, John Valves and Field Air are also in the process of establishing operations on site.

By opening up this industrial land, BWEZ is creating connected places that support local jobs, businesses and the regional supply chain.

More than 2,000 jobs will be created when BWEZ is fully developed.

BWEZ will also be home to Ballarat Freight Hub, which is jointly funded by the Victorian and Australian Governments and will be delivered by the Department of Transport and Planning. The hub will provide infrastructure and access to road, rail and ports, encouraging employment growth in Ballarat and the surrounding region.

We continue to work with Development Victoria, the Department of Transport and Planning, the Australian Government and the City of Ballarat to develop this land in stages, with more than $70 million having been invested in the creation of industrial land at the precinct since 2015.
