Budget 2020/21 delivers for Loddon Campaspe

The Victorian Government’s 2020/21 Budget is investing in initiatives that support recovery in the Loddon Campaspe region, including $35 million for Regional Creative Infrastructure projects.

This funding will be used to support the Castlemaine Goods Shed and create a new exhibition space at the former Kyneton Primary School.

This year’s Budget is focused on driving the economic and social recovery of Victoria, including enabling strong recovery across rural and regional Victoria.

Other investments in the Loddon Campaspe region include $4.2 million for the new Regional Skills Demand Profiles initiative.

This initiative will see the Victorian Skills Commissioner establish Regional Skills Taskforces and develop and deliver Regional Skills Demand Profiles for Regional Partnership regions, including Loddon Campaspe - something the Partnership has been advocating for.

Universal three-year old kinder will also be extended across an extra 15 local government areas in regional communities including Campaspe, Central Goldfields and Loddon.

A further $115 million from the $1.25 billion Big Housing Build has been allocated to build social and affordable housing in Greater Bendigo and Macedon Ranges Shire.

Purchasing land and planning for the future expansion of Maryborough Hospital will also be possible thanks to a $5.2 million investment.

More morning express rail services will reduce travel time on the Bendigo line, commencing in January 2021.

The Victorian Government is also supporting the extension of Loddon Campaspe Regional Partnership’s Healthy Heart of Victoria initiative, by extending the work of Health Brokers from January 2021 to 30 June 2021.

As part of the Healthy Heart of Victoria initiative, Health Brokers are a workforce embedded into local government to build health and wellbeing into decision making and help increase the knowledge and commitment of local communities towards better health outcomes.

Healthy Heart of Victoria is a Victorian Government funded initiative aimed at improving health outcomes through a prevention lens across the Loddon Campaspe region.

A further $10.3 million will go towards upgrading walking and cycling tracks along the Murray River Adventure Trail, which was championed by the Loddon Campaspe Regional Partnership through the 2018 Significant Tracks and Trails Strategy.

Through a Deep Dive and youth consultation, the Loddon Campaspe Regional Partnership heard from many young people the importance of removing the stigma associated with VCAL, this message has been shared back to government and the Regional Partnership is very pleased to see the  integration of VCAL into VCE, creating one certificate for Year 12.

This year’s Budget also includes a number of state-wide initiatives focused on boosting key regional industries, creating jobs and encouraging regional tourism.

These initiatives include the $465 million Victorian Tourism Recovery Package, the $626 million Victoria's Digital Future Now initiative and the $10 million Coronavirus (COVID-19) Regional Recovery Fund.
