Budget 2020/21 delivers for the Mallee25/11/2020
The Victorian Government’s 2020/21 Budget is investing in initiatives that support recovery in the Mallee region, including $10.3 million to upgrade walking and cycling tracks and river infrastructure along the Murray River Adventure Trail.
This year’s Budget is focused on driving the economic and social recovery of Victoria, including enabling strong recovery across rural and regional Victoria.
Other investments in the Mallee region include $4.9 million to upgrade the Mallee Silo Art Trail and $10 million for the completion of the final stage of the Mildura South Sporting Precinct.
The Commonwealth and Victorian governments have committed to early works to progress the Victoria to New South Wales Interconnector (VNI) West project – with a preferred route known as Kerang Link – so that it can be delivered by 2027.
Key initiatives also include $55 million from the $1.25 billion Big Housing Build to build social and affordable housing in Mildura and Swan Hill, while $10 million has been committed for upgrades to sections of the Robinvale – Sea Lake Road to make it safer for motorists and more efficient for freight.
A further $48.8 million will deliver Victoria’s share of funding for the Murray Basin Rail Project’s next steps.
This year’s Budget also includes a number of state-wide initiatives focused on boosting key regional industries, creating jobs and encouraging regional tourism.
These initiatives include a $115 million investment in the future of Victorian agriculture and $112 million towards upgrading heating, cooling and hot water in 35,000 social housing properties across the State.
The Victorian Government is also investing $465 million Victorian Tourism Recovery Package, the $626 million Victoria's Digital Future Now initiative and the $10 million Coronavirus (COVID-19) Regional Recovery Fund.
