Budget 2020/21 delivers for Ovens Murray


The Victorian Government’s 2020/21 Budget is investing in initiatives that support recovery in the Ovens Murray region, including $15 million towards construction of the Falls to Hotham Alpine Crossing hiking trail.

This year’s Budget is focused on driving the economic and social recovery of Victoria, including enabling strong recovery across rural and regional Victoria.

Other investments in the Ovens Murray region include $10.3 million to upgrade walking and cycling tracks as well as river infrastructure along the Murray River Adventure Trail.

A further $4.3 million has been committed for Prosecco Road early works to enhance the King Valley food and wine trail.

There is also $35 million funding over four years for Regional Creative Infrastructure projects including the Benalla Gallery redevelopment, as well as $50 million from the $1.25 billion Big Housing Build allocated to build social and affordable housing in Wangaratta and Wodonga.

The Wangaratta Hospital will receive a $7.6 million boost to expand maternity accommodation and improve critical infrastructure, while $122.4 million is being directed to new school projects including the new Benalla Campus of Wangaratta District Specialist School.

The 1st Baranduda Scout Hall will receive an upgrade as part of the $5.5 million investment for Scouts infrastructure.

This year’s Budget also includes a number of state-wide initiatives focused on boosting key regional industries, creating jobs and encouraging regional tourism.

These initiatives include the $465 million Victorian Tourism Recovery Package, the $626 million Victoria's Digital Future Now initiative and the $10 million Coronavirus (COVID-19) Regional Recovery Fund.
