Why I call Victoria home

Two young women from Hume Region are winners in a nationwide competition.

Heywire is a lived experience storytelling competition from the ABC, calling for stories from young people aged between 16-22 in regional, rural, and remote Australia.

Eaknoor is from Seymour, in Taungurung Country.

She was born in the north of India but moved to Australia with her family when she was three. At first, she felt different to other people, but a game of cricket changed her life.

Solange is from Wodonga, in Wiradjuri, Waveroo and Dhudhuroa Country.

She had to flee her homeland in the Democratic Republic Congo due to warfare, with members of her family torn apart and spending years in different refugee camps.

Now in Wodonga she has found peace, and technology helps unite her family and celebrate her culture.
