National Data Sources and Publications

Department of Employment Small Area Labour Markets

Small Area Labour Markets presents regional estimates of unemployment and the unemployment rate at the Australian Bureau of Statistics' statistical area level 2s (SA2s) and at the local government area level.

Regional Australia Institute’s Insight Portal

The Regional Australia Institute (RAI) is an independent research institute dedicated to examining regional issues and policy priorities. Regional Australia Institutes ‘insight’ portal provides data and measures across key themes including at Local Government Area geography. The RAI’s broader website provides links to research relating regional development.

Regional Wellbeing Survey

The Regional Wellbeing Survey is an annual survey of residents living in Australia's rural and regional areas. First conducted in 2013, it examines the wellbeing of people in rural and regional communities, and how this wellbeing is influenced by the many social, economic and environmental changes occurring in these communities. The results of the survey enable the provision of insights that support the development of strategies to build wellbeing, resilience and adaptive capacity in rural and regional Australia.

State of Regional Australia—2015 uses data from its companion publication Progress in Australian Regions—Yearbook 2014 to illustrate the trends and patterns of economic and social progress in regional Australia.

State Data Sources and Publications

Vocational Training: Victoria’s Regional Reports

Department of Education and Training (DET) prepares reports on the Victorian training market performance and responsiveness to businesses across Victoria’s regions. The reports include training market profiles of regions including Loddon Mallee North, Loddon Mallee South, Wimmera Southern Mallee, Central Highlands, Great South Coast, Geelong and Surrounds, Hume, Gippsland, Northern Metropolitan, Southern Metropolitan, Eastern Metropolitan, Western Metropolitan and Inner Metropolitan.

Statistics for Victorian Schools

The Department of Education and Training provides data and statistics on the Victorian School education system, including figures for student numbers, retention rates and school numbers.

Victoria in Future (VIF) 2016

Victoria in Future 2016 (VIF 2016) is the official state government projection of population and households. The projections cover the period 2011 to 2051 for Victoria and the major regions. For Local Government Areas (LGA) and smaller areas (VIFSAs) they cover the period to 2031.

Know Your Council

Know Your Council allows users to benchmark and compare similar councils, view detailed profiles of councils, view maps of council areas (local government areas) in Victoria and find out about how local government works in Victoria.

Urban Development Program

The Urban Development Program provides data on land supply and take-up for residential and industrial land across regional Victorian cities and centres.

Local Government Area profiles

The Department of Health and Human Services produce downloadable spreadsheet of data on range of indicators, with a particular focus on health indicators by Local Government Area level geography.

Town and Community profiles

The Town and Community Profiles include information on population, geography, services, facilities, expenditure, and social, cultural and health characteristics of each suburb, town and catchment in Victoria.

Current Rental Report

The Victorian Department of Health and Human Services produces annual and quarterly property rental data reports at local government area and suburb geography level.

The Victorian Transport Statistics Portal

The Victorian Transport Statistics Portal (VTSP) provides access to data relating to transport trends in Victoria, including broader demographic datasets. The VTSP provides data at the Local Government Area level, and for some of its datasets at other geographic levels including the Statistical Local Area level, the Statistical Area Levels 2, 3 and 4 or the State suburb level.

Data.Vic

Data.Vic is the place to discover and access Victorian government open data. You will find data that Victorian government departments and agencies have opened and made available to the public. You can use it anyway you like build apps and tools, use it for research, gain insights and understanding.
