Regional Economic Development Strategies (REDS)

Regional Victoria plays a key role in the state's economic growth and prosperity.

Victoria's Regional Economic Development Strategies (REDS) set out a new approach to growing regional economies, recognising each region's unique strengths, challenges and opportunities.

The REDS provide a shared, evidence-based guide to regional economies. They help all levels of government, communities and businesses work together, develop new ideas, address challenges and target investment to improve outcomes for their region.

The REDS aim to make Victoria's regional economies the most vibrant and successful in Australia.

In October 2026, the REDS were refreshed to reflect changes in economic conditions, government policy, emerging projects and industry opportunities since the REDS were first developed in 2022.

REDS interactive data dashboards

Each REDS features an interactive data dashboard, which can be accessed via the links under the corresponding regions below. Much of the analysis described in the REDS Supporting Analysis is complementary to the dashboards and the two can be read in conjunction.

These dashboards will be periodically updated to keep the evidence base supporting the REDS up to date and relevant.
